 August 24-26, 2012

The 3rd Annual 9/11 Memorial Wiffle Ball Tournament is a three day weekend tournament hosted by Community Christian School (CCS) in Westfield, MA to honor fallen members of the United States military and their families. The event will commence with opening ceremonies at 6:30 PM on Friday August 24th and end with closing ceremonies after the championship game early Sunday afternoon. Half the proceeds will be donated to Community Christian School and the other half of the proceeds will be donated to the Massachusetts Soldiers' Legacy Fund to assist families of fallen soldiers.

About The Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund

The Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund (MSLF) has been established to specifically help the children of Massachusetts Servicemen and Women who have died while deployed on operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. The MSLF is specifically designed to grant funds for current and future college/university students whose parent's "home of record" at the Department of Defense was Massachusetts and were killed on deployment during Operations Enduring or Iraqi Freedom.

In 2010, this event was held in honor of U.S. Marine Capt. Kyle R. Van De Giesen of the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force.  Captain Van De Giesen was killed in action on Oct. 26, 2009. He was piloting an AH-1 Cobra Marine attack helicopter when it collided with another helicopter while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. Kyle's wife, Megan, his daughter Avery Grace, and son, Colin Joseph, who was born just a few days after his dad's funeral were honored during the opening ceremonies. He is also survived by his parents, Calvin and Ruth Ann, his brothers Christian and Ryan and his sister Caitlin.  Over $7000 was raised for CCS and the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund during this three day tournament.

In 2009, this event was held in memory of Jeremy Paul Bouffard, a native of Middlefield, Ma. and Corporal with the United States Army, who was killed in the line of duty along with thirteen other soldiers on August 22, 2007 when his helicopter crashed in Multaka, Iraq. Jeremy's family was honored at the event and Jeremy's three year old son, Caleb, threw out the first pitch. Over $6000 was raised for CCS and the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund.

Both CCS and MSLF are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.
